The two riders lost their lives as none of them were wearing helmets. Ashok Jagdale, senior inspector, MRA Marg police station, said, “The impact was such that the bike went crashing into the other lane.” Jagdale further added that post the hit the bike landed in path of two Mercedes Benz cars, the first one managed to dodge it, but the second one crashed into the bike and sent it flying back on north-bound lane. The car which hit the bike was also rear-ended by a Skoda that was trailing behind.

Both the youngsters sustained severe head injuries and were declared dead on arrival. Back in 2010, the city's traffic police had enforced a ban on two wheelers from plying over the flyover and has also been patrolling the area frequently to deter bikers from taking the bridge. But often bikers are found to be violating the rule and take the bridge whenever no policeman is spotted patrolling the area. The MRA Police is on the look-out for the unidentified car that hit and fled the scene.
