A rundown on Maruti Suzuki Ignis Alpha AMT

At Rs 7.01 lakhs ex-showroom, Delhi, the Ignis AT is a premium compact hatchback with a hefty price tag. These variants were not offered during the launch of the car as it would astronomically increase the price difference between the base trim and the top-spec automatic.

Maruti Suzuki has only now started offering automatic transmission on their top-spec premium hatchbacks and after the Baleno, it is the Ignis that gets the Alpha AMT trim. Being the top-spec trim, it offers you everything – dual-tone exterior paint with contrast roof, 15-inch alloy wheels, blacked out mirrors, front fog-lamps and the LED daytime running lamps.

Inside, the interiors are all-black and the look is premium with leather on the steering wheel and the gear-knob. It gets a large touch-screen tablet infotainment system with smartphone integration via Bluetooth, USB input and AUX for music. It also gets steering mounted audio controls, push-button start, all-four power windows, power mirrors and an automatic climate control system.

At 7.01 lakh, the Ignis Alpha AMT competes against the Hyundai Grandi10 Sportz (O) AT, Honda Brio VX AT, Ford Figo Titanium AT and the Nissan Micra XV CVT in its segment. The Ignis is the smallest among them in terms of size, but offers a bunch of features to compensate for it.

For Rs 7.01 lakhs, you could also get your hands on a Baleno Delta AT petrol. While the Baleno is a bigger car, the Delta trim loses out on the features list. If automatic is not a priority, you can also check out the Maruti Swift or the Volkswagen Polo or the Hyundai Elite i20 manuals. Also, you can opt for compact sedans like the Hyundai Xcent S AT petrol or the Honda Amaze or the Ford Aspire. If you are a fan of high riders, you have the Ford Ecosport or the Honda WR-V to look at along with the new Tata Nexon and the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
