      60,000 units of Jeep SUV may be produced in India by Fiat Chrysler

      Internationally popular Fiat Chrysler is reportedly considering India for manufacturing the Jeep SUV for global market. Initially the company aims at producing about 60,000 units in India by 2017. For this purpose, the company is likely to make a total investment of about Rs 2,500 crores over the coming years.

      The new Jeep SUV's shall be available in petrol as well as diesel trims. Both the trims are likely to be powered by 2.0 Liter 4-Cylinder engines that shall manufactured and assembled in India. The trims produced in India are likely to be meant for the European market. As for Indian market, only the diesel trim may be offered on sale, whereas the European markets may get a petrol trim along with a diesel trim.

      The new Jeep production is likely to begin at Fiat Chrysler plant in Pune based Ranjangaon facility. The pricing aspect is unknown for now but it is likely that the company may offer the Jeep SUV between the price range of Rs 20-25 lakhs. Production for the Jeep SUV is likely to begin from early 2016. More details on the SUV shall be known at a later date post an official announcement made by the company in this regard.
