It has just been 10 days since the odd-even formula has been implemented and the Delhi government informed the Supreme Court on Saturday that 60,000 vehicles in NCR have converted to CNG. The new off-even formula has been implemented to reduce the pollution levels and to reduce congestion in the city. CNG vehicles do not work on odd-even formula and hence this adds to the convenience of car buyers and at the same time, it is a lot cheaper to run than petrol.

At a meeting called by EPCA to lay out a plan to reduce air pollution in New Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Delhi Transport Corporation have submitted their plans for the same. DTC’s ridership has seen a jump of three lakh passengers, which normally sees a drop in January has seen an increase. With the reduction in congestion, the buses haven’t even missed many of its trips either.

If car commuters continue to travel by train, the Delhi Metro will have to add 1282 coaches to it and this will take about three years to add them. Once the Phase III of the Metro is complete by 2017, Delhi will be able to commute 45 lakhs passengers daily instead of the current one, which is at 28 lakhs to 30 lakhs.
