Our spy photographers have caught the new Chevrolet Silverado while it was testing. The test mule was spotted fuelling at a diesel pump, confirming the speculation of a diesel powered pick-up truck.

The spy shots suggest that the upcoming Silverado is a dual-cabin pick-up truck with a long cargo bed. The spied vehicle is heavily camouflaged, however, it reveals the boxy silhouette of the upcoming truck. The fascia is expected to be tweaked and the pick-up truck will carry refreshed styling bits on the side.

The new pickup will sit on the same ladder frame chassis and will carry an aluminium-intensive body. This will make the Silverado lighter and efficient.

The new vehicle is expected to be powered by 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine, but GM also has a 4.5-litre V6 diesel in its arsenal that only needs to be dusted off and put into production. Another rumor suggests that GM may try to upgrade the turbo and injectors in the 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel for the 1500 model. The gearbox on offer could be a ten-speed automatic first seen in the Camaro ZL1.

The test mule is expected to be revealed later next year and will be introduced to the market as a 2019 model.
