The 2018 Volkswagen Touareg has been spotted undergoing trials in Europe. Positioned between the Tiguan and the Atlas, the Touareg will compete against the likes of the BMW X5, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Lexus RX.

This new model doesn’t bear any significant visual changes over the current model, which might explain the lack of camouflage on the test mule. Visually, the new Volkswagen Touareg looks like a shorter version of the seven-seater Atlas. It gets the same front fascia and the slightly boxy profile. It looks wider and more upmarket than before, thanks to the LED lamps and the new alloy wheels. Under the hood, we can expect a range of four-cylinder and V6 engines with both petrol and diesel options. We can also expect it to be a top-of-the-line plug-in hybrid variant.

The Touareg will go on sale in Europe later this year as a 2018 model. While the Touareg used to be the top-of-the-line SUV in Volkswagen’s line-up, this spot has now been taken up by the Atlas. It seems unlikely that the Touareg will be launched in India.
