Mercedes-Benz C-Class is set to undergo a midlife update this year. Ahead of the reveal of the C-Class, our spy photographers spotted a prototype of the facelifted C63 Coupe AMG variant at the Mercedes-Benz’s headquarters in Stuttgart.

The high-performance C63 AMG seems to be hiding a new nose and tail under the minimal camouflage that covers it. The LED headlights have a design signature that is similar to the new gen E-Class. We aren’t sure, but judging by the cladding, the AMG GT’s famous Pan-American grille might be added to the list too. The rear diffuser looks subtle, but it might be hiding a new design under the camouflage. The front bumper, however, seems untouched, and so is the case with the alloy wheel design. Apart from these tweaks, the cosmetic changes appear to be minimal.

There are no images of the interior available at the moment, but it is likely to include an updated infotainment system with newly added equipment and features like new steering, touchpad control and a newly-designed centre console scrounged from the new E-Class. Under the hood, the updated C63 will continue with the 503bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8. However, a nine-speed automatic transmission might replace the current seven-speed unit.

Following the facelift of the flagship S-Class, it was speculated that Mercedes-Benz would implement a similar design update in the other cars in its portfolio. The new E-Class family has been completed just recently, hence the current generation C-Class is the newest car to be facelifted.

A similar design update will follow suit with the standard C-Class which is due later this year. Expect the facelifted C63 to be unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, alongside the updated C-Class.
