After launching the all-new generation of the Elantra, Hyundai has now shifted its focus on to the car’s bigger sibling – the Sonata. The latter was recently caught on test for the first time in the Mojave Desert .
The 2018 Sonata will be highlighted by the addition of an 8-speed automatic gearbox to mainstream variants. The 8-speed unit is likely to give substantial improvements to performance and efficiency.
It is no secret that the previously upgraded Sonata received an underwhelming response and as a result lagged behind its rivals in the mid-size sedan segment. With the 2018 model, Hyundai is looking to give the Sonata a thorough refresh next year in order to spark new interest in the car. Going by the look of recent Hyundai models, the 2018 car will infuse some much needed personality to the Sonata's lineup by taking design cues from more expensive models like the Azera.
