Honda will launch the second generation Amaze compact sedan for the Indian market on May 16. Unveiled at the Auto Expo, this compact sedan features a new design, updated interiors and for the first time (both for the car and the segment), a diesel CVT.
This second generation sports a muscular design with cues that suggest that it is a downsized version of the latest generation Civic sedan. Inside, the Amaze gets interiors very similar to that of the City and the Jazz. The top-of-the-line VX models get climate control, beige and black dual tone interiors, 7.0-inch touchscreen system, rear arm rest and height adjustment for the driver’s seat.
The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit producing 87bhp/109Nm while the diesel is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 100bhp/200Nm. They can be had with a five-speed manual. For the first time, you will have to also be able have the diesel with a CVT though output is down to 80bhp/160Nm.
The Honda Amaze will compete with the Maruti Dzire, Ford Aspire and the Hyundai Xcent. We expect a jump in prices across the model range for the second generation Amaze.
