Mercedes-AMG unveiled a new 53AMG spec at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show with the introduction of CLS 53, E53 Coupé and the E53 Cabriolet.

      AMG

The new 53 Series employs a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine working in collaboration with an innovative EQ Boost system. The EQ Boost starter-alternator combines a starter motor and alternator in a powerful electric motor and is fitted between the engine and transmission. The power for the 48V onboard electrical system is generated by the EQ Boost starter-alternator. These hybrid functions include boost with 16kW of output and 250Nm of torque. The result is 435bhp of power at 6,100rpm and an instant combined twisting force of 670Nm accessible between 1,800 and 5,800rpm. All the firepower is transmitted to the AMG-spec 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system as standard via the AMG TCT 9G automatic transmission. The 0-100kmph time is similar for all three cars at 4.5 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. Which of course can be extended to 270kmph with an optional Driver’s package.

Appearance wise, the 53 moniker is distinguished by a twin-louvre grille instead of the diamond radiator grille on the standard car. The bumpers get aggressive touches with splitters and fins. There is a new lip-spoiler on the boot lid, which can also be opted in carbon-fibre. Meanwhile, the CLS 53 AMG features additional aero bits to make it stand-out from the conventional four-door coupe variant. The cars come with stylish 19-inch alloy wheels as standard although there is an option of upgrading to 20-inches as well.

Like in any other AMG-spec cars, the cabin is lavish and sporty in the trio. The all-new dashboard design gets the Widescreen Cockpit encapsulating the infotainment and instrument system in one and comes with AMG user interface. The AMG performance steering wheel, leather upholstery, and electrically adjustable seats are all part of the package.
