2017 VW Polo GT TDI snapped testing

Volkswagen is currently testing an updated version of the Polo GT TDI ahead of its expected debut in early 2017. It will get the updated diesel engine and additional features but remain the same in terms of appearance.

      New Polo GT TDI

Photos reveal no outside changes but it is certain that the updated car will carry the revised 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 109bhp and 250Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual. We believe that there will be no diesel AT option for this iteration of the GT TDI as VW will have to price the car competitively for cost effectiveness.

The GT TDI is available as a single top spec Highline variant which gets dual front airbags, ABS, touchscreen infotainment system, leather steering and gear knob, cooled glove box and climate control as standard fitment. In addition, we believe that cruise control, auto head lamps and wipers will be included in this update.

Now here is where things get a bit odd. In the current scenario, the top-of-the-line standard diesel Polo and the GT TDI are separated by Rs 66,000 (ex-showroom Delhi pricing) and for this you get only a more powerful engine. When this new car is launched, it will carry the same features as the top-spec Polo but will be priced significantly higher due to the updated engine, begging us to ask if it is worthy to continue with this model. As far as we see it, VW could discontinue the standard top spec diesel Polo in favour of GT TDI or vice versa.
