The next generation of the Subaru Impreza is expected later this year and will be built on a new platform being developed by the carmaker. Fuji Heavy Industries, the manufacturers of Subaru, has unveiled the new platform. Subaru will develop all its new cars around the new global platform.

The new platform has the chassis rigidity improved by almost 70 per cent which will show up in straight line speeds. A lower centre of gravity and with the rear stabiliser offering lower body roll, the in-corner dynamics of the Subaru cars are set to get a notch higher. Improvements to the suspension system and better torsional rigidity will also help in precise steering and feedback.

Talking about the new concept, Fuji Heavy Industries president Yasuyuki Yoshinaga said,“The Subaru Global Platform lifts Subaru’s automotive technology to new heights, and marks the next step in the evolution of ‘Enjoyment and Peace of Mind’, the value that Subaru offers to its customers. This new platform represents the culmination of the know-how we have developed over many years, and we are confident that it will allow us to produce vehicles that live up to our proud traditions and meet the high expectations customers have of Subaru.”

The new suspension setup will help better bump absorption and provide a smooth and comfortable drive for the occupants. Safety has also been an integral part of the development of the new architecture which allows more efficient energy absorption to minimise the risk to the occupants in case of collision. The added rigidity of the new platform will also help distribute noise, vibrations and harshness effectively throughout the frame. The new platform has been developed to incorporate new Subaru engines, symmetrical all-wheel-drive and also can be adapted for electric/hybrid vehicles.
