Hyundai has launched the 2017 Xcent compact sedan for the Indian market and has given it a starting price of Rs 5.38 lakh for the petrol range and Rs 6.28 lakh for the diesel variants (ex-showroom Delhi). There are five petrol and five diesel variants and both can be had across five colour options.

This 2017 Hyundai Xcent gets a completely revised face and rear-end as a part of the overhaul. The face has moved from the sporty façade of the Grand i10 to a large black grille with silver inserts found on vehicles like the Elantra and Tucson. There is a similar change at the rear which now gets wide wrap-around lamps in place of the much smaller square units found on the Grand i10. We have detailed the design of the car and you can find the link to the story here.

The cabin has retained its dual tone setup, but now gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features on this top-of-the-line model include climate control, button start, smart phone holder, leather wrapped gear knob, reverse camera and steering mounted audio controls. Also offered as a standard across all variants are dual airbags.

An alternator management system has been made standard across all variants. This technology allows the battery to be charged only during deceleration or when there is spare power available. It is a system that will aid in improving fuel efficiency.

The petrol engine powering this 2017 Xcent is a 1.2-litre unit producing 81bhp/114Nm while the diesel is a new 1.2-litre unit producing 75bhp/190Nm. Both can be had with a five-speed manual while the petrol can also be had with a four-speed AT. The diesel is an upgrade from the old 1.1-litre unit of the outgoing model and this increase in cubic capacity has bumped up the torque figure to match the common standard in the segment.

The Hyundai Xcent takes on the likes of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire and the Volkswagen Ameo in the B+ compact sedan market.
