Hyundai has launched the 2017 Verna sedan in the Indian market and has priced it at Rs 7.99 lakhs (all India ex-showroom). Dubbed the next generation Verna, this is the fifth one introduced in the Indian market and is available in four number variants and across two engine options. The exterior design has been revised and now the Verna gets a family face, thus creating a styling similar to the Xcent and the Elantra. The silhouette of the current Verna has been retained, but it now comes with sleeker tail lamps and chrome for the fog lamps. In terms of measurement, it is now 4.3-metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.58 metres - an increase of 15mm and 10mm respectively.
The cabin is done in beige and black with an updated feature list and some additional rear room. The new list includes a bigger touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, dual USB charging points, power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs and climate control. Hyundai has also added Eco Coating for scent control, rear curtains and a hands free boot opening. The top-of-the-line model gets six airbags and ABS with EBD.
The petrol and diesel engines are 1.6-litre four-cylinder units producing 121bhp/151Nm and 126bhp/260Nm respectively. Both engines can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
In the Indian market, the Verna is Hyundai’s fighter in the C-segment sedan category, a part of the market that is gaining importance as second time car buyers’ move up the food chain. It takes on the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid.
