      2017 GIIAS - Top 10 hatchback that stole the limelight

      The 2017 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) offers a right platform for global automakers to showcase their technological advancements and their products. Hatchbacks being a popular segment, this year the event witnesses 10 hatchbacks that stole the show this year at the GIIAS 2017.

      Suzuki Baleno 1.4

      Apart from the Indian market, Suzuki Baleno has made its debut in Indonesia at the GIIAS 2017. The Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) has officially launched the Baleno for the Indonesian market at the GIIAS 2017. The Suzuki Baleno gets a 1,373cc K14B four-cylinder cylinder engine that generates 91bhp of power and 130Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual or a CVT.  

      Suzuki Ignis G-Urban

      Suzuki Ignis G-Urban Concept

      Suzuki unveiled the Ignis G-Urban concept at the GIIAS 2017. Although most of the design element is carried forth from the Ignis in India, the concept unveiled in Indonesia comes loaded with features like black plastic bumper cladding across the lower portion and silver garnish on the bumper. Additionally, it also gets LED-powered strips flanking the ‘S’ logo, two-tone plastic cladding on the side skirt, 16-inch 5 twin-spoke alloy rims, a larger rear spoiler, and an upgraded rear bumper. The standard Ignis in Indonesia is powered by 1.2-itre 4-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that generates 82bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Five-speed Auto Gear Shift is limited to top-spec variant, while the rest get five-speed manual transmission.

      The Ignis S-Urban Concept is an off-road iteration of the Ignis. The vehicle gets more aggressive cosmetic detailing in form of plastic cladding and skid plate. The vehicle sits on wide custom wide-road tyres along with an air scoop on the hood. The vehicle gets sporty roof rails, while the rear gets a new bumper and a diffuser. The standard Ignis in Indonesia is powered by 1.2-itre 4-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that generates 82bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Five-speed Auto Gear Shift is limited to top-spec variant, while the rest get five-speed manual transmission.

      Datsun Go LIVE

      Datsun Go LIVE, as the name suggests, is a livelier version of the Go hatchback sold in Indonesia and India. The Go LIVE unveiled at the GIIAS 2017 featured sharper headlamps and taillights. The vehicle gets sharper bumpers, a large grille, 17-inch alloy wheels and sporty side skirts. The Go hatchback gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates 67bhp of power and 104Nm of torque.  The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

      Hyundai Grand i10X

      Hyundai Grand i10X

      The India-made Grand i10X facelift has been showcased at the GIIAS 2017. Based on the new Grand i10 in India, the Grand i10X gets a black-plastic panel with a faux skid plate and red accents, black-plastic wheel arches, black-plastic side skirts with red highlights and a black plastic rear bumper with faux dual exhaust outlets and silver bumper garnish. The 14-inch two-tone alloy wheel is exclusive to the i10X. Mechanically, the Grand i10X is powered by 1.25-litre Kappa petrol engine that generates 86bhp of power and 120Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic options.

      Honda Jazz RS Sport

      Honda Jazz RS Sport

      Honda unveiled the Jazz RS at the GIIAS 2017 which gets red, black and grey stripes which runs across the sides of the car as well as the roof. The new theme comes as part of Honda’s sports theme for the event. The vehicle gets sporty bumpers along with the RS badging on the grille and the boot lid aalong with sporty interior combinations. The vehicle is powered by a 1.5 L SOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 118bhp of power. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a CVT.

      Renault Kwid Limited Edition

      Renault Kwid Limited Edition

      Renault has showcased the Kwid Limited Edition at the GIIAS 2017. The Limited Edition trim additionally comes with a body kit that includes bolder black plastic cladding, LED DRLs above the foglamps, chrome garnish on the grille, 14-inch dual tone alloy rims, side moulding and rear parking sensors. Mechanically, it gets the India-spec 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine mate to five-speed manual that generates 67bhp of power at 5,500rpm and 91Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm.

      As the name suggests, the Kwid Extreme Concept gets an aggressive body style. The front gets sporty bumpers grey inserts and red highlights complete with a splitter and sharp bumper extensions. The rear also gets red highlights and air intakes on the sides. Interestingly, the vehicle sits on low profile tyres and gets red ORVM casing.

      The Hyundai i20 Sport is basically a sportier version of the i20 hatchback sold in India. To give it a sporty appeal, the vehicle gets s silver faux diffuser, larger roof spoiler, DRLs across the foglamps and multi spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, contrasting red bumper, side skirts and a black vinyl finish across the doors. It also gets an all-black interior. Mechanically, it continues to be powered by a 1.4-litre Gamma VTVT four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 98bhp and 130Nm of torque. The vehicle is available in five-speed manual and four-speed automatic options.    

      Volkswagen Beetle 60th Merdeka edition

      The Volkswagen Beetle 60th Merdeka edition is based on the on the Herbie from the movie ‘The Love Bug’. Apart from its unveiling at the GIIAS 2017, the vehice has also been launched in Malaysia. Available in pure white and white silver colours the Merdeka Edition features blue and red stripes and large racing numbers (60 instead of the Herbie’s 53). The vehicle gets halogen headlights and 16-inch Whirl alloy wheels as standard. Mechanically, it is powered by a 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 103bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed dry dual-clutch transmission.
