The Toyota Fortuner's latest iteration has been launched in Indonesia at RP 442,000,000 (Rs 21.60 lakh). This is the next-gen variant of the SUV that gets a complete design overhaul and comes packed with many new features.

This Fortuner looks sharper than the present model available in India. The fascia sports a new two-slat grille that extends up to the headlamps and has flanks that taper over the headlights. The sweptback projector headlamps are surrounded by chrome embellishments to add to the bling factor. The bumper is redesigned and gets a new black air dam while the fog lamp housings are surrounded by thick curved aluminium accents. The rear end also gets a similar slim-cut treatment with sleek tail lamps.

Toyota has made changes to the interior as well. In fact, the cabin is completely redesigned. The dashboard layout is new and the instrument cluster comes with a multi-information display. The new three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel comes with audio controls. The center console is vertically-oriented with a touch screen entertainment system, automatic AC controls and lot of storage spaces.

The SUV gets the new 2.4-litre diesel unit matched to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. This mill churns out 149.6bhp of power and 400Nm of torque and is offered in two trims G and VRZ with the availability of 2WD and 4WD. The petrol variant is powered by a 2.7-litre VVT-i engine (163bhp, 242Nm) and comes paired to the six-speed automatic transmission. This will be offered as a single variant - only as a 2WD vehicle in the SRZ trim.

The new Fortuner will be manufactured at Toyota's production plant in Karawang. It is still due for an official unveiling in India and we expect Toyota Kirloskar Motors to showcase it at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo. It will compete with the Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer in the Indian market when launched.

Hiroyuki Fukui, President and Director of Toyota Indonesia, said, "In line with the spirit of Toyota, the all-new Fortuner incorporates features that are developed to deliver a car with performance that is capable of exceeding customer expectations for a true sport utility vehicle. Today, we are proud to introduce the all-new Fortuner with superior technology, product and service. All of this has been done to make sure that the all-new Fortuner is not only better than the previous models, but at the same time, it will lead the segment."
