Toyota has got 5,400 official bookings for the 2016 Fortuner within two weeks of its launch this month. Despite the latest iteration not being shown at this year's Auto Expo, it has generated a tremendous response.
Toyota officially started accepting bookings for the vehicle on November 7, the day of its launch. But, since the dealers had already started accepting bookings ahead of the SUV’s Indian debut, in all probability, the numbers might be even more. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Fortuner becomes the SUV to record fastest landmark bookings.
Such a high demand already has also meant long waiting periods of up to two months for the Fortuner. According to the manufacturer, prospective buyers are preferring the automatic variants to the stick. The carmaker is anyway prepared for the huge demand of the vehicle. They say they can ramp up the production of the SUV, showing that they are prepared to take measures to ensure that the waiting period for the car doesn't extend by a lot for a buyer.
N. Raja, Director and Sr. Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, "We are overwhelmed with the response that the new Fortuner has garnered in just two weeks’ time since its launch. We have noticed a significant customer preference towards the automatic transmission and trying our best to deliver the product to the customer at the earliest so that they don't have to wait too long."
