      2016 Paris Motor Show: Ssangyong LIV-2 concept unveiled

      Ssangyong LIV-2

      Ssangyong unveiled their new design concept LIV-2 at the Paris motor show. Previously called project Y400 is the newest version of the LIV-1 which was shown at the Soul Motor show in 2013. The LIV stands for ‘Limitless Interface Vehicle’. It will be the design language for future mid-size and large SUVs from the Korean manufacturer. The LIV-2 concept is almost production ready and can be badged as Rexton that will be introduced in 2017. Ssangyong hopes that it the flagship model will take the brand to newer markets.

      LIV-2 is a body-on-frame construction. Powering it is a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine putting out 180bhp and 420Nm of torque. Mated to a Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic transmission. The car is also be made available with a newly developed petrol 2.0-litre GDi turbo engine with 222bhp and 350Nm, coupled to either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox.

      Ssangyong LIV-2 Interior

      Ssangyong wanted was to create a contemporary executive lounge within a luxury limousine. Therefore on the inside, it gets individual recliners at rear with vibration massage, fine leather and piano-black finished panels along with mood adjusting lighting. It is equipped with a suite of advanced communication technologies like Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto enhance connectivity, wifi mirroring device. This can all be controlled from the second-row centre console, which gives access to the infotainment system via a touch control panel for 'surround sound' and premium entertainment quality, as well as unrestricted smartphone use with headsets and phone recharging.

      There is white colour finished on the body and the electronic sidesteps integrate illuminated path to the car is modern. The grille is designed to resemble the spread wings of a bird and will be a sight on future Ssangyongs. In the safety commitment, the car features nine airbags including curtain and driver’s knee airbag. It has got emergency braking system with autonomous braking, radar and laser scanning with camera sensors, traffic safety assists (TSA) and high beam assistance (HBA). There is also a lane departure warning, with blind spot detection and lane change assist.

      "The LIV-2 showcases our luxurious approach to the extremely popular SUV concept, while also applying advanced technologies and high levels of safety. We are confident that this is going to be another landmark model and will take the SsangYong brand to the next level. Thereafter, we will be adding a new model every year for the next couple of years, each one designed to broaden our brand appeal to customer groups and international markets." Company’s CEO Johng-sik Choi said.

      Along with the LIV-2 at the Paris Motor was showcased the updated Tivoli and Tivoli XLV SUVs for 2017.
