The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been finally revealed at the Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale. The new-gen Pajero Sports will be available in three trim levels – GLS, GT 2WD and GT 4WD – within the price range of 1,138,000 Bahts (approx. Rs. 20.82 lakh) - 1,450,000 Bahts (approx. Rs. 26.51 lakh). For the Indian market, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be imported via CKD (completely knocked down) route, and then assembled locally at HMFL’s Tiruvallur-based plant. It is expected to be launched in India sometime in Q1, 2016.
Designed on Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) safety body construction system, the new-gen Pajero Sport features an aggressive front fascia with ‘Dynamic Shield’ design with the GR-HEV-inspired X-shaped grille, secondary air dam, headlamps and fog lights. On the side profile, it gets pronounced wheel arches, long side creases and LED daytime running lights. The rear profile, too, is revised with wide windshield, LED taillights and license plate enclosure with a chrome strip. The length and ground clearance of the SUV have been increased by 90mm and 13mm, while its height is reduced by 35mm. The SUV now measures 4,785mm in length, 1,815mm in width and 1,805mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,800mm. It has a ground clearance of 218mm.
The new-gen Pajero Sport comes equipped with several new comfort and safety features including a touchscreen multimedia infotainment system, new dashboard design with silver accents, new four-spoke multi-function leather wrapped steering wheel, ABS with EBD stability control, etc. Powering the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is an all-new 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel engine that is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission with 2WD and Super Select 4WD drivetrain systems. This powertrain is capable to produce 181PS and 430Nm of torque. It is claimed to deliver 17% more fuel efficiency and 200gm less carbon emission than the existing engine.
