2016 Hyundai Tucson spied testing in India for the first time

After unveiling it early on in 2015, Hyundai officially brought the all-new Tucson to India during the 2016 Auto Expo. Now, this all new offering has been spied testing in the country for the first time. Thanks to its striking new design and sportier underpinnings, the 2016 Tucson looks bold enough to represent another leap forward for Hyundai India.

Design wise, the front of the new Tucson is dominated by Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front grille, which connects with the LED headlamps. The front bumper has a wing-shaped appearance, which incorporates the LED daytime running lights, giving a visual reference to the vehicle’s wide track. The rear, meanwhile, has a clean design with horizontal lines that flow from the rear wheel arches and are accentuated by slim tail lights. Inside, the 2016 Tucson is longer, wider and has a longer wheelbase than the old model for better interior volume and versatility.

Globally, Hyundai is offering two petrol engines, a 135bhp 1.6-litre GDI or a 176bhp 1.6-litre T-GDI, plus three diesel options 115bhp, 1.7-litre, 136bhp 2-litre ‘standard power’ or 184bhp, 2-litre ‘high power’ engine units. For India, the brand is likely to choose their 2-litre diesel engine in high power form and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox as the prime option.

Hyundai India will launch the 2016 Tucson before the end of this year with prices ranging between Rs 16 to 20 lakh. The crossover will be seen competing with the likes of the SsangYong Rexton, Skoda Yeti and the Renault Koleos.
