The latest iteration of the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport challenger – the Ford Endeavour – has arrived on Indian shores and was recently spotted at a Ford service centre. This is the next-gen variant of the SUV that will be launched early next year with the bookings for the same beginning this month itself.
The 2016 Ford Endeavour seen in the latest pictures is completely undisguised and even sports the 'Endeavour' badging. The SUV is known as the Everest in other markets. For the new Endeavour, the SUV’s off-road capabilities have been reinforced thanks to a new, ladder frame chassis and a more modern four-wheel drive system.
In terms of looks, the Endeavour is very similar to the 'Everest concept' first showcased in Sydney, Australia in 2013. An imposing radiator grille, LED daytime running lights, brawny front bumper, new alloy wheels and rear underbody protection are some of the distinct highlights on the new model.
The new Ford Endeavour is expected to be offered in two diesel engine options for the Indian market. There is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder unit (158bhp, 385Nm) and another more powerful 3.2-litre five-cylinder mill (197bhp, 470Nm). The former powerplant will come mated to the six-speed manual gearbox, but the latter will additionally be offered with the six-speed automatic transmission as well. This will also come as the 4x4 variant, while the 2.2-litre set-up will be restricted to the 4x2 layout.
The upcoming Endeavour was unveiled at the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show and is expected to be exhibited at the 2016 Auto Expo. It might be slotted in the Rs 24 lakh to Rs 28 lakh price bracket and will rival the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
