While the first-gen Volkswagen Tiguan never made it to the Indian market, VW is keeping high hopes with this second-gen model which uses the brand’s latest design language and the flexible MQB platform for better interior packaging and sporty driving dynamics.
What is it?
The Tiguan is Volkswagen’s entry into the escalating crossover segment in India. This second-gen model is based on the company’s MQB platform that has allowed for weight savings of up to 50kg over the old model. The same platform also underpins the VW Golf, Audi TT and the Audi A3. The second-gen model is 60mm longer and 30mm wider than before although the overall height has been dropped by 33mm.
Is it special?
It is a special product because it’s Volkswagen first attempt at taking on other big wigs like Hyundai and Renault in the crossover space. Plus, the typical German build quality and the impressive TDI-DSG engine-gearbox combo will certainly give the Tiguan an edge over its rivals.
When is it coming?
Volkswagen has officially announced that it will bring the Tiguan to India during this fiscal year.
