While Mahindra has its own share of production as well as concept vehicles to showcase, Ssangyong has the Tivoli as their showstopper at the ongoing Auto Expo. This new model, in fact, is Mahindra’s ticket to the five-seater crossover segment.
What is it?
Launched in January 2015, the Tivoli is yet another addition into the burgeoning crossover space. As a result, it’s about the same size as the Hyundai Creta or the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Underneath, it’s being offered with SsangYong’s newly developed 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options globally with 124bhp/157Nm and 113bhp/300Nm respectively.
Is it special?
Although SsangYong is a bit late to the party, its still got to prove its mettle in the crossover segment. While it certainly looks good and will probably be offered with a lot of features to match its rivals, Mahindra will need to price it well to make it really stand out.
When is it coming?
The SsangYong Tivoli will be launched later this year and will compete with cars including the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta.
