Toyota, the Japanese automaker, has unveiled the Corolla Hybrid at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. The vehicle will be manufactured jointly by the FAW and Toyota, and will go on sale in the Q2 2015 in China. It’s the first time when the Japanese carmaker has showcased its Hybrid technology on the Corolla outside Japan.
The Hybrid Corolla looks more aggressive and sharper than the regular model. At the front end, the car features a twin bar chrome grille, new projector headlamps with a LED strike-through, fog lamp integrated into the bumper and a wraparound air dam. On sides, the hybrid sedan gets chromed alloy wheels and chrome garnished doors. Except for chrome strip on tail lamps, the rear profile remains unchanged. The Corolla hybrid will be offered in a new blue exterior paint option.
Toyota hasn’t officially unveiled the details of the sedan, but Chinese media claim that the car will get a hybrid system with 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine and an electric motor. It is claimed to deliver a maximum power of 99bhp and a fuel economy of 20.40kmph. Toyota will subsequently introduce another Corolla Hybrid, based on the U.S- spec model, which will be developed under the joint venture of GAC and Toyota.
