      2015 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R expected to be a strong contender in hatchback segment

      The Wagon R hatchback from Maruti Suzuki has been around for more than a decade. In the local market the car has been promoted as an intelligent choice in the hatchback segment. Wagon R has been a practical choice for an average middle class Indian; it had space, comfort, decent power, and everything seemed to be just good for a regular commuter. Recently, the car has been loosing out on sales numbers amidst a wide fleet of hatchbacks from various car-makers in the local market. In order to revive its sales numbers, Maruti Suzuki has reportedly been working on developing a new Wagon R that shall be more fuel efficient and reliable than the existing lot.

      The anticipated version of Wagon R is expected to be powered by existing engine configuration, but this around the engine may be slightly tweaked for better performance scores. Minor cosmetic changes could be seen in the new avatar and additions of new features are also likely. Tweaked head lights and tail lights are likely to be equipped in the new version. The tail lights are likely to receive generous amount of LED lights. Major changes in the design of the hatchback are not anticipated, however auto experts have hinted that refreshed WagonR could share cues with WagonR Stingray. Among other exterior changes, the hatchback is likely to come with a taller airdam and reworked front and rear bumpers.

      Stingray had been the last launched hatchback based on the Wagon R platform from Maruti Suzuki. The Stingray hatchback is powered by the same 1.0 Litre three cylinder K-series engine. The refined engine generates about 68 PS of power with a peak torque output of about 90 Nm. The K series engine has been successful with the current lot of Maruti hatchbacks. Technical specifications for the car are similar to the older Wagon R, the only difference here would be cosmetic upgrades. The Maruti Suzuki Stingray has been designed to appeal for the younger crowd. The Stingray sports a dual tone Grey-beige shade on the plastic upholstery. Audio controls are back-light and have been steering mounted for easy navigation through the play-list. The instrument cluster is illuminated with a blue back-light to give you a sportier feel. The AC vents has also received a dash of Chrome that gels well with the dual tone interior combination. Moreover, the vehicle sounds an alert every time you forget to take your keys out post parking.

      Detailed report on the anticipated face-lifted version of Wagon R shall only be known post an official announcement made by the company in this regard. The hatchback is expected to be launched sometime early next year.
