Maruti Suzuki India recently launched the much-awaited Swift facelift in the Indian car market. The company slightly tweaked the exterior styling and added some features to the hatchback. The addition of new features make it costlier over the previous model.

The changes given to the hatchback are not just limited to styling or value addition, the company has also tweaked the mechanical bits of the Swift to increase the fuel efficiency. The new model is claimed to be 10 per cent more fuel efficient that the previous model. Under the bonnet, however, are the same 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K Series Petrol and 1.3-litre Multi-Jet diesel units.

The gasoline engine is capable of producing 84.2PS (83.11bhp) at 6,300rpm and 115Nm of torque. The company has tweaked the engine which in return offers an improved mileage and less power than the previous model. Its older variant develops 87PS (85.77bhp) at 6,200rpm and 114Nm of top torque. The torque value is increased by 1 Nm, while the power output has decreased by 2.7PS. The petrol variant now returns 20.4kmpl of ARAI certified mileage, which is 1.8kmpl more than previous model rated at 18.6kmpl.

The oil burner, 1.3-litre DDiS engine develops the same 75PS of power and 190Nm of top torque. However, the engine sees an increase of 10 per cent in fuel efficiency from 22.9kmpl to 25.2kmpl.
