The Indian arm of Volkswagen Group, the well-appreciated and renowned German multinational automotive maker, will begin selection of drivers for the 2013 Polo R Cup from March 22 to 24, 2013. The registration process started in December last year and ended on February 18, 2013. The Volkswagen Polo R Cup attracts a number of amateur and professional racing individuals every year and remains one of the most anticipated motor sporting events in the country.
The 2012 Volkswagen Polo R Cup saw Ameya Walavalkar taking away the winners' title, while A. Sandeep Kumar was also selected to race at the Scirocco R-Cup 2013. The German auto major's Polo 1.6 model is expected to set new benchmarks in the competition. Further, the Indian arm of Volkswagen launched its Polo SR model rated close to 75 bhp with a price tag of Rs. 6.27 lakhs in early February 2013.
Evidently, the German auto maker is increasing its presence in the motor sport arena and also offers a chance participating in adventure events organised worldwide, to winners of the Polo R cup. As per the official website, Kris Nissen, Director, Motor sports, Volkswagen Group, has been quoted as saying on the Polo R Cup, “The Racing Polo meets high demands. It has to assure first-class safety standards, deliver dynamic handling properties and prove its robustness even in turbulent races. For young talent, Polo Cup provides the ideal basis to learn the basics of professional touring car sport.”
