Hyundai Motor India Limited, the country's second largest passenger car maker, is believed to be working on its next generation i10 that would be placed between the current i10 and i20 hatchbacks. Testing mules of the new vehicle have been observed in several parts of the country. An all-new platform has been used for this car, same as the international Kia Picanto and it also gets the Hyundai fluidic design scheme. A longer wheelbase on this platform would liberate more interior space than the current i10. Apart from this, it is anticipated that the next generation i10 would have a diesel engine and would be available in India sometime during the 2013 festive season.

Information from various sources indicate that new features will be seen in this vehicle. Interiors would look more upmarket than the current i10 and dual tone finish will be provided as standard across all variants. There would be a multi-functional steering wheel in the upcoming car, which would also have the cutting edge traction control with Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

Under its hood, the 2013 Hyundai i10 would be fitted with a 1.1 litre turbo diesel engine, capable of developing 75 bhp of peak power and 150 Nm of highest torque. This would be an advanced diesel engine that would come fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger. The car is expected to have more space than the current i10 and its platform may also be used to build a compact sedan, in order to compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire and Honda Amaze. Currently, Hyundai does not have a vehicle in the highly competitive compact sedan category, which is being targeted by most Indian automobile manufacturers.

The next generation i10 will be a global product for Hyundai and would be launched in several car markets, apart from India. It will be christened as 'Brilliant' and is anticipated to be seen at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show during September this year. It remains to be seen if the next generation i10 can replicate the success enjoyed by the current i10 and i20 models. Interestingly, both generations of the i10 will be sold along side in the Indian auto market.
