Mercedes Benz's stall at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo may be host to the 2012 M-Class, which was recently seen on a flatbed truck that could be going to Pragati Maidan, where the January event will be held. Though the inclusion of this model is an assumption at this point, absence of any camouflage and its placement on an automobile moving truck will strengthen the belief of auto enthusiasts. If the car is showcased at the event, it will probably be launched in the domestic market next year.

Mercedes Benz M-Class, a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), will feature a completely renewed look, which will give this third generation vehicle a distinct appearance as compared to the currently available second generation car. Like all new Mercedes cars available nowadays, this SUV sports prominent curves, especially on the fascia. The front boasts of swept back headlamps, daytime running lights, redesigned bumpers and a noticeable grille, which contribute to the appealing appearance of the vehicle. The sides also have curvy character lines and the rear has been altered to match the stylish look of the front.

The M-Class has been altered to quite an extent not just in terms of exterior appearance, as its engine will also be changed. The 3 L V6 turbodiesel engine, which is available in cars in India, will be assisted by a smaller 2.2 L 4 pot turbodiesel engine, though it may not be introduced in the Indian market at all. The former churns out maximum power of 258 bhp and highest torque of 620 Nm, substantially more than the 241 bhp power and 540 Nm torque produced by the current version. The engine will be assisted by an efficient 7-speed automatic transmission mechanism.

The upcoming 2012 Mercedes Benz M-Class will boast of an improved 4MATIC all wheel drive system, which will enhance the off-roading capabilities of this car. While the current model boasts of a top speed of 210 kmph, the new car will be able to zoom to a maximum speed of 224 kmph with utmost ease. The acceleration of the car will also be increased, with the SUV moving from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.4 seconds against the 7.6 seconds that the current car takes.

In spite of the increase in speed and acceleration, the car will boast of better fuel economy as compared to the existing M-Class. The new 2.2 L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine is capable of generating a maximum of 204 bhp power and 500 Nm torque. The 2.2 L engine can reach a top speed of 210 kmph, equal to that of the current model's, though the engine accelerates slower than the 3.3 L engine. Therefore, this smaller engine will be welcomed with open arms by those who want a high powered yet fuel efficient car.

The 2012 M-Class will also feature a smaller turning radius of 10.8 metres, lesser than the 11.6 metres of the current model; thus, the new car will be easier to manoeuvre. All standard safety arrangements, like Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), traction control, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), hill hold control, along with many enhancements to its mechanicals. The car will also possess the proprietary Active Curve System of Mercedes Benz, which employs hydraulics to keep the body roll as low as possible during hard cornering.

Considering such aspects, the 2012 Mercedes Benz M-Class will come as a considerable improvement over the current one, a fact that will gladden SUV lovers attending the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo.
