BMW is conducting test runs of the sixth iteration of 3-Series range of cars in India presently. The 2012 3-Series spotted in the country was heavily clad so that the modifications made by the German company could not be identified easily. The new 2012 edition of 3-Series has already been rolled out in the European market in 2011. It is expected to be launched in the domestic market in the coming few months, though no dates have been ascertained as of now.

The latest 3-Series cars will be available with engine options that are present in the existing range of the series, though the new models will be more fuel efficient and have lower emission levels. BMW has been inspired by the 5-Series and 7-Series while finalising the look of the new 3-Series. The new cars on the platform will boast of sharper headlamps, wherein the LEDs will be placed similar to eyebrows over the corona rings.

BMW’s latest offering in the 3-Series will be slightly larger than its predecessor in all respects, though it will be 40 kg heavier. The increase in dimensions will render a greater stance and extra interior space to the model, primarily in the rear, where it will have more knee room and headroom.

Though the manufacturer offers the 3-Series with various engine options in Europe, it is highly unlikely that it will bring all the variants to India. However, variants like 320i 4 cylinder petrol and 320d 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel are likely to be launched in the country. Speculation is rife that the company will also launch the 6 cylinder 328i performance variant in the domestic market. These three variants will be complemented by an 8 speed automatic transmission mechanism for smooth gearshifts. BMW will offer a number of optional accessories and upgrades that will enhance driving pleasure and passenger comfort but will hike the prices substantially.
