Nissan Motor India Private Limited (NMIPL) is the latest automaker that has released diesel version of an existing car model, Nissan Sunny. The mid-size sedan, launched three months ago, has done commendably in the market. The Japanese automaker has introduced Nissan Sunny Diesel sedan at the price tag ranging between Rs. 7.98 lacs to Rs. 8.78 lacs (Ex-Showroom, New Delhi). The diesel version will be put forth for enthusiasts in two variants, Sunny Diesel XL and Sunny Diesel XV.
Targeted at youth, Nissan Sunny Diesel version emulates petrol variant’s stylish exteriors and plush roomy interiors. The pre-eminent ‘V’ platform design of the mid-size sedan makes it dynamic and light in weight. The unique selling propositions of the sedan are integral strength, robust ride refinement and dynamic on-road behaviour.
The launch of Nissan Sunny Diesel comes at the time, when Indian automotive industry is witnessing a phenomenal upsurge in demand for diesel cars. On the launch event, Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD & CEO, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd., said, "We are delighted to introduce the diesel variant of Sunny for the Indian market. Designed on the global ‘V’ platform, the diesel version of the car will have same exterior and interior features. In context of technical configuration, Nissan Sunny has equipped with an advanced 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K9K engine that has capability to churn out power of 86 bhp at 3750 rpm and has maximum torque delivery of 200 Nm at 2000 rpm. To maximize performance, K9K engine is intelligently integrated with five-speed manual transmission mechanism. Furthermore, sub-frame mounted suspensions and anti-roll bars reduce road noise and vibration, providing better response on most challenging Indian roads.
To the delight of Indian customers, Sunny Diesel is equipped with advanced technology to boost performance and improve fuel economy. Touted to deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency, it has gathered attention of enthusiasts looking for diesel fuelled mid-size sedan. New Sunny Diesel is empowered by a fuel-efficient K9K diesel engine, which is developed by Renault-Nissan alliance. As per ARAI, the mid-size sedan has a fuel efficiency of 21.64 kmpl.
Impersonating the petrol variant in style and dynamism, Nissan Sunny Diesel creates an impression with signature grille and jewel-shaped headlights with elegant chrome touches. On one hand, stylish curves and neat rear spoiler adds a sporty character, whereas wide opening doors provide easy ingress and egress provides convenience like a luxury sedan.
In context of exterior dimensions, new diesel variant measures 4425 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2600 mm. Moreover, there are several comfort and convenience arrangements in the mid-size sedan like large central armrest with cup holders. The generous rear-knee room and head room along with capacious 490 litre trunk ascertains convenience.
Sunny Diesel has several active and passive safety arrangements and technology, ensuring safety of passengers. Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Engine Immobilizer and Airbags are the highlighting advanced safety features of Nissan Sunny.
