The Auto Expo has provided the right platform for global carmakers to launch their vehicles. The event has been a grand success for the past 11 years and it is said that cars launched at the Auto Expo generate good sales later-on. The event attracts a good amount of media attention and promoting a car isn't exactly a difficult task. This year, organizers have promised a grander event with record number of vehicles participating at the event.
Maruti Suzuki, India's top selling carmaker plans to unveil its much talked about hatchback named 'Celerio'. The car features 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder K-series petrol engine that churns out amazing power output of 67 bhp at 90 Nm max torque. Celerio has been boasting about its new automated manual transmission technology that allows you to drive minus the function of a clutch. Moreover, this technology is expected to deliver a better efficiency and does not add considerable weight to the car. The XA Alpha SUV that was showcased at Auto Expo 2012, is all set to launch its production version during the upcoming event. Maruti Suzuki also plans to unveil the face-lifted version of the Swift and A-Star. The expected upgrades shall mainly be cosmetic in nature. The SX4 crossover named S-Cross is also expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014. The car is expected to be powered with 1.6 litre petrol engine, and it is anticipated that it may be available in diesel version as well.
The Datsun brand which had been inactive for nearly 3 decades is now ready for a re-launch planned by Nissan. As per reports, Datsun GO+ shall be powered by Nissan’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine which generates about 68 PS of power and 104 Nm of peak torque. The MPV shall be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The car is expected to compete against Ertiga from the Maruti Suzuki production line, and the Mahindra Quanto. Toyota has decided to unveil its new crossover named Etios Cross at the event. It is anticipated that the diesel version shall feature 1.4-litre D4D engine that produces 69PS of power. Whereas, the 1.5-litre petrol engine generates about 90 PS of power. The 1.8 litre Corolla Altis was recently launched in the Indonesian market and has been stated to perform well. In India, this car would be available in two versions. The Toyota Corolla Atis shall be powered by 1.8 litre petrol engine that delivers maximum power output of 151 PS and 190 Nm of top torque. It is anticipated that the car may be mated to a four-speed automatic transmission or be used on six-speed manual transmission. An Impressive SUV from Volkswagen is also expected at the event. The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be powered by 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The engine generates a good 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. The diesel version may feature a 1.4litre, 3 cylinder engine. The Taigun features turbo chargers and direct injection technology to deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl in Petrol, whereas the Diesel version is more fuel efficient.
The upcoming SUV from Hyundai named Santa Fe is also worth looking out for during the Auto Expo event. The new Santa Fe is available in 2 liter turbo and a 2.2 liter CRDI motors .It is speculated that the new avatar would come with the same 2.2-litre CRDi diesel engine in its hood, which can generate a power of 194 bhp and a peak torque of 422 Nm. Much awaited Hyundai Grand i10 sedan will be based on the company's iconic hatchback Grand i10 and will inherit much of the characteristics from its sibling. The former will share the same wheelbase as the latter, except for a slightly elongated body to accompany the boot. Indian car manufacturer, Tata motors has plans to unveil its line of Falcon 4 and Falcon 5, the company even has plans to unveil it face-lifted version of Safari Model. The Specifications for these cars are keep hidden till its launch. Similarly, speculations are also made for the Mahindra Scorpio facelift.
German carmaker BMW plans to unveil its fresh line of cars like the 3-Series GT, M6 Grand Coupe, X5 and i8 hybrid. As per reports, the BMW 3-series GT shall feature two diesel engine variants – the four-cylinder 320d and six-cylinder 330d. The engines shall be mated with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
