The Honda Accord has been one of the most successful car models for the Japanese car maker. Honda has revealed the all-new MY 2018 10th generation Accord and it gets more curves, a new line-up of powertrains and upgraded equipment. Honda will not build the Accord Coupe while the Touring (estate) version of the Accord will be offered.
The naturally aspirated 2.4-litre inline four and 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines have been replaced by 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines respectively. The new engine provides almost equivalent power outputs as the previous mills, but offers more torque from the bottom of the rev-range thanks to the turbocharging. While the 1.5-litre comes with a CVT automatic and a six-speed manual options, the 2.0-litre gets a 10-speed automatic and a six-speed manual gearbox options. You also get drive modes – Normal and Sport – to alter the cars reflexes depending upon your intended driving style.
The platform of the new Accord uses more light-weight high-strength steel, making it lighter by almost 50kg while the rigidity of its chassis has improved by 25 per cent. Wider and lower than its predecessor and the new look of the Accord sports a new front grille design and sleeker headlamps. The profile reveals the extended sloping roofline for the coupe-ish looks, probably designed to make up for the lack of the Accord Coupe.
On the inside, the dashboard houses a single tablet touch-screen display as against the dual-screen setup of the 9th generation car. Although the cabin layout is similar, the design now uses straighter lines and bright accents for the upmarket look. With the rear seats pushed further back, there is more space for the rear passengers as well. A twin-pod instrument cluster replaces the old three-pod unit and the new Accord also gets a new steering wheel.
The New Accord will arrive in the US by the end of 2017, to be sold as a MY 2018 car. Since we already have the ninth-gen Accord here in India as a CBU, we can pretty much expect the all-new 10th generation car to be here within a couple of years if not sooner.
