Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe Review: The quick S
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class has several sub brands under the flagship brand. One of the newest addition is the swanky-looking S-Coupe and this is coming with the S63 AMG avatar as well. So, what is the S-Coupe all about? Is it powerful coupe? Or even luxurious? Does it retain the S-Class pedigree? We take the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG for a spin to find out more about it. Appearance Exterior
One of the most gorgeous looking cars is the S Coupe for sure. It won’t fail to appeal to you, doesn't matter if you are a teenager or 50-year old. The S-Class still retains the logo above the grille as it has the "Travel with Star" connect, but the S Coupe doesn't get anything like this. It has an Avantgarde front grille with a thick horizontal chrome slat and a large central star. Then there is also the AMG badging neatly placed in the front grille. The air dams underneath the grille have chrome surround and the facia looks aggressive. Each and every element melds in perfectly to give it a stance. The headlamp styling is similar to all other new-generation Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The side profile of the S63 AMG shows a mix of sports car character with its long hood and coupe stance with a fastback. Then there are the 10-spoke alloy wheels, which we think could have looked cooler with some other design. The red colour disc brakes are visible and one of the highlights. The rear of this coupe looks voguish and it has a thin strip of chrome running across. The rear bumper has a prominent haunch and the four large exhausts indicate that this is a lot beast that will vanish from your sight within a blink.
Appearance Interior
The interiors of the S-Coupe need to luxurious, elegant and at the same time sporty (because of the AMG character). It is a difficult task. But the designers at Affalterbach and Stuttgart did a lot of thinking and crafted the perfect interiors. The instrument panel is derived from the S-Class and it still has some touches from AMG and the S Coupe. This is likely to be one of the few AMGs to have a gearstick on the steering column than the sporty AMG gearshifter at the centre. The steering wheel is chunky and good to grip with flappy paddles that make it a joy to shift. The large LED display for the instrument cluster and the centre console makes the S Coupe look very tech-loaded and modern.
The front row seats are comfortable and do look sporty. They are a hybrid of luxury and sportiness, so it has lumber support, while the side support is dynamic and in sync with the steering input for best support. We had experience something similar with the E63 AMG, this has been further personified for better support. The space in the second row is also decent, though it might be a bit tight for long people. The rear seat is extremely comfortable and there the seat is cosy. There is space for two people only as there is a centre arm-rest as well. You will only have difficulty to sit at the back only if you are a six-footer and front seat is occupied by someone who is equally tall too. The toy quotient on the S63 AMG is high thanks to its connect with the S-Class. The seatbelt is offered to you by a robotic butler everytime you step inside. The sunroof tints automatically to avoid harsh sun rays from intruding into the cabin.
Performance Drive
The S63 AMG has a 5.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that churns about 577bhp of power and 899Nm of torque. This comes mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The S63 AMG with its twin-blown V8 runs off picking up its skirts on a twitch of your right toe. On the other hand, it is even a cruiser and mile muncher if you need a GT. This is one of the most comfortable and luxurious cruisers. The V8’s exhaust has a soulful note and woo-zing when you go pedal to metal.
Mercedes-Benz has been the best-in-class when it comes to ride quality. The S-Coupe despite being an AMG has subtle ride. It easily glides over potholes and bumps, making it a smooth riding experience. The Magic Body Control soaks up all the bumps and makes it a delight for the occupants to enjoy the frills as they absorb all the road shocks. The handling too, doesn’t need any much description. The view of the instrument cluster is hidden with the seat and steering adjustments available, thanks to the heads up display this issue is solved. The ride is sublime and the drive is effortless. The steering is also accurate with sufficient feedback and the large gear paddles make it a joy.

Conclusion
The S-Coupe is one of the most stylish Mercedes-Benz in the recent times and such designs are seen once in a decade. The AMG avatar means more power and of course higher cows too. If you are in a league to pick a Rolls Royce Wraith or a Bentley Continental, then the S63 AMG is this league. If your tastes are subtle and you have the desire for extreme performance in the lap of luxury then it is this coupe that has to be considered. If you want to arrive in a car that is just about looks and has good performance, then the S500 Coupe will be your pick.
