Maruti Suzuki is riding high on the success of its model Maruti Suzuki Swift. The car is currently being manufactured in more than six countries across the globe, including India, and it has been declared a “legitimate sales success” for Suzuki worldwide, especially in the European and Asian markets. For example, the Swift accounts for nearly a third of production at the Hungary plant which manufactures Suzuki models for Europe. In Britain, Swift accounts for nearly half of Suzuki sales.
In the global market, the Suzuki Swift is also known as “Pocket Rocket” model for the company. Nevertheless, though the model already has a waiting period of several months, this does not mean that the company is resting on its laurels. The company is now working on a new Swift and, in fact, the Suzuki Swift 2011 has already been spied testing in Germany.
Currently, the fifth generation model of Suzuki Swift has been on sale in the international market since 2004. It is available as three-door and five-door variant in the international market. It is powered by 1.3L, 1.5L or 1.6L four-cylinder engines. The 1.6L engine produces power of 125 bhp and 148 nm of torque. The front wheel drive option comes as standard but some of the Japanese models also have four-wheel drive options. Although the model is clearly successful in Europe and Asia, it is completely absent in the US market.
The latest spy shots of the new Suzuki Swift 2011 model that has been caught testing in Europe reveal a front grille inspired from the latest Suzuki Kizashi model. The striking resemblance to Kizashi means that the new generation Swift may emerge as a Kizashi predecessor. However, the car still looks like the size of Mini Cooper.
The spy shots reveal that Suzuki Swift will have sporty exteriors with minor aerodynamic design, sports-tuned suspension and unique alloys. Suzuki may also have a Swift Sports model lined up as one of the variants next year.
The spy shots do not reveal the intricate details of the changes in interiors. But for what it is worth, the exterior shots do reveal that the upcoming 2011 model is bigger than the existing variants. Suzuki has also planned a new dashboard and steering mounted radio controls in the car. Suzuki Swift 2011 is further expected to feature latest add-ons like keyless entry, three-dial layout and modern up market central console. This means Swift 2011 model will also have plush interiors to lure Indian customers apart from its fuel efficiency and superb performance.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to be built on a completely new platform and will feature a range of small engines ranging from 1.2L petrol to 1.5L K-series engine. The 1.2L direct engine petrol engine promises to deliver the best fuel efficiency in its class. About 84 bhp will be created by 1.2 Liter direct injected petrol engine which available in new Suzuki Swift. The 1.4 liter direct injected petrol motor will also get some turbo treatment to create about 148 Bhp. Thus, the model will compete efficiently with Fiat Grand Punto European model.

Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed or indicated the launch of the model in India as its current focus lies on the launch of Kizashi. However, Suzuki is planning a global launch of the model in 2011 which means that the car is India bound as well.
The fifth generation Suzuki Swift 2011 looks promising enough for the Indian market. Rumours are also rife that Suzuki will introduce the hybrid variant and an all-wheel drive model soon. India is still one of the biggest markets for Swift and a global launch certainly means that Indian customers will have a taste of the latest variant soon. Suzuki Swift 2011 is expected to be launched at the upcoming Paris Auto Show in October 2010 when the final specifications and details of the model will be released to the global audience.
