Maruti Suzuki StingRay First Impression
Maruti Suzuki has recently launched its latest version of the Wagon R. It has been named Stingray and is a completely new look Wagon R which has gained appreciation for its styling. We made a visit to showroom to check it out and below are the details of the same. Maruti Suzuki Stingray features the same engine as seen in the earlier version of Wagon R.
Appearance Exterior
Once we look at the New Stingray, one can wonder whether it is really an upgrade of WagonR or a completely new one. A close observation of the size of vehicle, specifications of vehicle and badging it would be assured that it’s a real upgrade of Wagon R. Main thing about Stingray is its styling.
The combination of stylish projector headlamps and reflector grills gives the perfect new looks to Stingray. Radiator grill is made more attractive with enough passage for air circulation. Alloy wheels are given gunmetal grey color gives the required boost in appearance.
Chrome inserts are given for side cladding of tail lamps to give a unique attraction and attention to styling. Color selection includes Superior white, Glistering Grey, Passion Red, Midnight Blue, Silky Silver. Among those Passion red is given priority for the grand look.
Appearance Interior
In the Stingray there is definite improvement in quality and features of the interiors, starting from the upholstery to the design of dashboard and the music system.
The overall interiors boosts the image of the WagonR to that of what is expected from a higher segment car. There are many features introduced in this latest version of WagonR. A lot of importance is given to the usage of black colors for interiors. The seats are wide and offer comfortable postures for the occupants.
Premium black upholstery, forms a good impression and seating experience for the owner and other passenders. The dash board has a good finish and styling for central console. Chrome and Piano black finish in door handles, leather wrapped steering with audio controls, integrated Audio system(USB and AUX) with backlit buttons. Additional storage is provided in dash with push type opening.
Performance Drive
Stingray has best of styling and hence gives a feel good factor for the driver and passengers to enter the car. Once seated in driver seat, one can feel the comfortable posture and good cushioning effect. One can say the lumber support could have been improved even more.
There is sufficient leg space and head room. The analog and digital combination instrument cluster is made attractive with good combination of red and blue colors and with white outlines. There is provision for mileage indication and distance to empty.
These do help a lot for the driver to plan for next stop for fuel filling. Safety feature like airbag, ABS is available in VXI(O) variant. Steering mounted controls are an addition to features for comfort.
Once ignition is switched on, the engine starts smoothly and taking out the vehicle is a pleasure with expectations of getting good lot of attention. Driving in traffic conditions is quite easy with help of Electronic power steering, wide front wind shield glass and hence good visibility of road, rear view mirrors are quite big and does give best of view of following vehicles.
Pick up the vehicle is good and one can easily reach a speed of 60 to 80KMPH. In city driving, average mileage of 15 to 17KMPL can be expected depending upon traffic conditions. The ground clearance of 165MM is just good enough to negotiate normal road humps. Air conditioning is very effective and one can feel the cooling effect pretty soon even in rear seat. In overall Stingray does give a comfortable drive experience and a recommendable one

Conclusion
Although the Stingray features 1.0L engine, it can be compared with the 1.2L version of Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat. The Stingray has all the of right elements to make it a successful hatchback. The bold new looks, interior fit and finish, features and pricing does help a lot to get due attention of the customers. And of course, the Maruti name as a factor for buying the car goes without saying.
