Opening
The much awaited diesel version of Hyundai i10 is finally out in the market. This time Hyundai has not only introduced a diesel version, but has also given complete upgrades for the i10 starting from dimensions to engine options. Though petrol version features the same engine as the earlier i10 versions, it is more powerful. A diesel version 3 cylinder engine has been introduced with good power of 71PS and torque of 160NM. With a view to get a more indepth perspective on how different the latest version of Grand i10 is, we visited a dealer and took a test drive of the car. Below are the detailsof the same.
Appearance Exterior
Hyundai i10 Grand is indeed grand in its appearance. A first look at the car will lead to confusion of whether its a Grand i10 or the well known i20. May be the striking colors, stylish countors, head light and dimensions give such an impression.
All corners of the body panel are given due importance and with the best of styling. The front bumper is wide and black front grills dominate the looks. Round fog lamps are used for decent look. The headlight is beautifully designed and adds to the grander image of car.
Hyundai Emblem is placed at the center with a chrome lining running from one end to other end. The bonnet is given a rather sharp lift from front end to windshield end. It looks as though the space inside is very less. However once we open the bonnet, we can see all elements arranged in a very skillful manner and it looks large. Moving onto the side panels, lots of counters are introduced including black strip at the bottom of both front and rear doors. It may well be the thought that distinguises it from the i20.
Chrome handles are used for good panels and gives a grand look and feel good factor for opening the doors. A lot of importance is placed on aerodynamic features of the car so as to ensure minimum air resistance while driving at high speeds.
Coming on to the rear panel, again it looks like a shorter version of the i20 and the bold Hyundai Logo, clear lense tail lamp, reflector inserts in bumper dominate the looks. The badging of Grand i10 and variant name make this car all the more appealing.
Appearance Interior
The interiors of the Grand i10 gives a completely different and fresh feel as compared to the old i10. Its very roomy inside. The dashboard is quite wide with a nicely placed music system, control knobs below the music system and a USB port too.
The steering wheel is quite wide and one along with the steering wheel, gives the passenger a luxurious feeling. Once the instrument panel is switched on, we can see the intelligence in design and a provision for all the necessary information. The special features available are the gear selection indicators, fuel consumption indicator etc. Gear Knob looks bigger and markings are made bold. One feels it could have been designed a bit more stylishly.
The cushioning of seats is good and there is enough provision for lumber support and thigh support.Three passengers of average size and height can be seated comfortably. The rearparcel tray is wide and separates luggage space from interiors. The head rests are positioned well.
Performance Drive
With the excitement of test driving the first diesel and latest diesel version i10, once we stepped into the vehicle, we are welcome with wide opening doors that offer easy entry to the vehicle. To start the vehicle we need to press the clutch pedal and press the engine stop start button.
The engine starts quite smoothly and the noise level is also considerably low. Once we take out the vehicle to traffic conditions, we can feel the smoothness of steering and good visibility too. Wide rear view mirrors give best of view of rear vehicles and can be adjusted with switch provided on door hand rest on driver side door. The AC is effective and cooling takes place almost instantaneously.
One can feel a slightly excessive noise of blower working when we select higher speed of AC. Blower vents are provided behind the parking brake lever. It serves the purpose of direct exposure of rear passengers for cool air. The ground clearance of 165mm is quite good and vehicle can be driven safely at normal road humps. The braking efficiency is good and availability of ABS is an additional feature available in the top line variant.
Airbags are available in top end model for enhanced safety. Controls for audio, phone interaction etc is provided on steering in top end model and all ensure luxury feel for the driver. The handling of clutch, brake pedal and acceleration is similar to that of i10 and the only difference is the seating position. The pick up of the vehicle is smooth and we could reach upto 60KMPHto 70KMPH in normal driving between traffic signals. All in all, one can experience a good drive quality with grand i10.

Conclusion
Hyundai has taken a great initiative by introducing a car in the range between i10 and i20 and shown how it cares for customer satisfaction by providing wide range of options. In doing so, it has given its own models some stiff competition.
Whatever is the choice among the three, Hyundai would be the winner. Introducing diesel version i10 is indeed a smart move to capture more market share and would certainly boost morale of Hyundai customers and other customers seeking a good mileage drive.
