Fiat Punto Pure Review

Summary

Fiat’s Punto is one of the most stylish looking hatchback. This model got discontinued as Fiat introduced the Punto Evo. But now it has been re-introduced for those who will want to Punto with the original design. The Punto Pure has been launched with only one variant and two engine options. This is the same Punto that was previously sold. It has been introduced with three new colours.

Further to this, read Fiat Punto Pure Road Test details by our expert.

Exterior

The exterior of the Punto Pure is simple and it has the same Grande Punto styling. As it isn’t available with luxurious features, it doesn’t even get alloy wheels as a standard fitment. The Punto Pure has the original Fiat grille with the logo at the centre. Then there are the chrome surrounds for the front fog lamps. The door handles and even the ORVMs are black in colour. The rear design too is basic and simple in styling. An integrated spoiler is there on the rear. The tyres on the Punto Pure are 165/80R14, which are a lot more skinnier than that sold on the Punto Evo top end models.

Interior

The interiors of the Punto Pure are the same like that of the original Punto. The interiors of the Punto Pure have the same space like the Punto Evo. So, there is sufficient room for front row of passengers, while the rear is a bit tight for tall passengers when it comes to knee room. The boot size is sufficient to carry luggage for the weekend for four people.

This is the base model only, and hence it doesn’t get many features on it. The Punto Pure doesn’t even come with a music system either. The Punto Pure’s interiors are basic and it black interiors. There aren’t a lot of features in the offering on the Punto Pure. There are power windows on the Punto Pure and then there is power steering too.

Engine and Transmission

The Punto Pure is available with a 1.4-litre FIRE petrol engine that produces 90bhp of power and 115Nm of maximum torque. The second engine is the diesel, which is a 1.3-litre multisite that churns about 75bhp of power and 190Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. This comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission only. The Punto Pure won’t be coming with a 90bhp diesel engine. The tyres are also skinny on the Punto Pure.

Performance and Handling

The Punto has been one of the best handling vehicles, and the Punto Pure is no different. It is certainly a fun hatchback to drive around winding roads. The performance of the petrol and the diesel is decent. The Punto Pure has good power, and the diesel is more fun to drive before of better torque power. The hydraulic steering wheel enhances the feedback and this adds on to joy while driving.

Mileage

The 1248 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 19 kmpl in city and 21 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 13 kmpl on urban roads and 15 kmpl on freeways, respectively.

Safety Features

The safety features on the Punto Pure are very minimal. This comes with seat belt for all five people. The Punto Pure misses out on airbags and even ABS.

Verdict

The Punto Pure is a good product to purchase if you need a car with zero non-sense. To our dismay, it doesn’t come with any important safety features and there is no music system either.

Competition

The Punto Pure competes somewhat with the Hyundai i10 and the Nissan Micra Active. The only advantage Fiat has that it is even offering the hatchback with a diesel engine while the rest aren’t.

Pros

  1. Strong build quality
  2. Space
  3. Fuel efficiency

Cons

  1. Fiat’s service network
  2. Resale value

The Fiat Punto Pure is the pre-facelift model (Grande Punto) that was sold before the launch of the Punto Evo in 2014. The carmaker’s motive is to offer an affordable hatchback within the Rs sub-5 lakh range. We sampled both the petrol and diesel versions to tell you what this car is all about.

The Punto Pure has a well-rounded appearance with not many cuts and creases over the body shell. Upfront, the grille is chrome-free unlike many new cars. The sloping bonnet, chunky headlamps and the protruding nose add the much needed character to the fascia. To further accentuate the look, our test car had these good looking alloy wheels w....
