Cartrade Comparison Test
Out of the two, The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire happens to be the unchallenged ruler of sedan segment in India. The path for Skoda Rapid, on the other hand, is full of challenges as it belongs to a more aspiration segment – the mid-sized sedan. While Maruti Swift Dzire rules the roost on account of its brand reputation, strong trust, and high performance, Skoda Rapid earns full marks for its German engineering, better power and performance, added style, and superb designing.
Design: Interior and Exterior
In terms of design and style, Skoda Rapid should not be mistaken for the discontinued Fabia. It’s designing is pretty basic but is closely followed by an understated elegance. The built is solid which is very pleasing for any owner. You can also avail a black package with it which will give the car a black grille, wheels, headlights, and mirrors. On the inner end, it doesn’t disappoint and it is jazzed up with new chrome fillings and three spoke steering. The plastic used is of good quality and overall make gives you a premium sense of ownership.
Maruti recently gave the Swift Dzire an uplift which bestowed it with a bolder chrome grille, new blackened sweptback headlights, redesigned bumper, and fog lamps with chrome accents. The rear and side profile continues to be the same. On the inner end, it showcases comfortable accommodation capacity on front as well as rear seats. The wooden detailing over the glove box and window give it a premium look. New tech features include Bluetooth telephoning, parking sensors, and keyless entry.
Both Skoda Rapid and Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire are being offered wit both engine options in Indian market. The Skdoa Rapid diesel trim abstracts power from a 1.6-litre TDi power mill that churns out 103.56bhp for 250Nm. The oil burner of Maruti Suzuki Swift, on the other hand, is a 1.3-litre DOHC diesel mill that employs CRDi technology to churn an output of 74bhp against 190Nm torque.
The petrol version of Skoda Rapid has been blessed with a 1.6-litre MPI power mill that gives a decent output of 103bhp for 153Nm. Au contraire; Swift Dzire has been blessed with 1.2-litre K-Series engine that produces 86bhp for 114Nm torque.
The choice is mainly a matter of perception. While Maruti Suzuki products are all about brand trust and performance, Skoda products can be relied upon for their built quality and world-known Skoda’s reputation. Acquiring trust of customers is another thing which is a big challenge for Skoda in the Indian market given the high number of players pitching for the same. Skoda Rapid stands a few steps behind Dzire in terms of price, performance, and space. However, the car earns high score for style, built, and designing. The Skoda Rapid is currently being offered in India in several trims and its price brackets go from Rs. 7.10 lakhs to Rs.11.65 lakhs. The Swift Dzire, on the other side, is available in 8 variants ranging from Rs. 5.08 lakh – Rs. 7.82 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
