Maruti Suzuki, the leader in small cars in India, launched the Celerio with an intention to replace the A-Star and the Estilo. The A-Star was a great product but unfortunately couldn’t do much in terms of sales. The Estilo too got a cold response. The Celerio was jointly made by a team of 175 Indian and Japanese engineers. With the Celerio, Maruti Suzuki also became the first car manufacturer to introduce the AMT technology. Datsun was an iconic brand in terms of budget cars. With a fresh approach and new vision, they entered India with the GO hatchback. The GO is a spacious car with trusted Nissan mechanicals underneath. The GO has received mixed response from Indian consumers.

Exterior and Interior Design: Maruti Suzuki Celerio Vs Datsun GO

The Datsun GO chooses to look unconventional with its larger design lines all over the body. It gets a hexagonal radiator grille with a dark matte mesh inside surrounded by chrome. The large three dimensional headlights offer better illumination and also flow all the way to the side. The GO stands long at 3785mm and also has a wheelbase of 2450mm. To make sure it tackles bad roads with ease, it has a ground clearance of 170mm. The 155/70 R13 tyres, contrary to the design, look small.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is more of a modern day hatchback with sharp lines. It gets dual clear lens headlights. The radiator grille has twin slate done in chrome. The front bumper has a simple design and the top end trims come with fog lamps as an option. It has a wheelbase of 2425mm and a ground clearance of 165mm.

In terms of features inside the Datsun GO, it gets a MDS – Mobile Docking Station mounted on the front dashboard. It looks simple but has its high points considering Indian consumers are fast moving towards smartphones. There is a USB charging slot and an AUX input which can pair with a smartphone and play music, navigate or even take calls depending on the features of the Smartphone.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has a spacious cabin and offers great headroom too for taller passengers. The legroom too is impressive for front row and rear row passengers. Airy feel has to be the main attraction inside the Celerio’s cabin. All four seats come with an integrated headrest hinting cost cutting measures but then are not evident. Seats are decently cushioned and are ideal for in city traffic.

Conclusion: Maruti Suzuki Celerio Vs Datsun GO

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio might not be too pleasing on the eyes but then it is a smart alternative to the otherwise budget conscious cars. It is the only car in its segment to be offered with an AMT unit, which is of huge benefit especially in city conditions. With the GO, Datsun is in no mood to take on the market leader but instead wants to offer a second option to the bestselling car. Unfortunately, it has faced negative feedback in terms of safety and sales network. Something we expect to improve with time.
