      Cartrade Comparison Test

The Hyundai Verna fluidic has taken the game to a new level for Hyundai. Before this car, the Korean car maker came with reliable products but they did not look good. Hyundai cars always had to face criticism for the way they looked. Santro to Sonata, all the cars lacked the enthusiasm until guys at Hyundai dropped the Fluidic bomb. The Fluidic Verna ushered a new story for Hyundai in India. It is available in both petrol and diesel in manual and automatic variants priced between Rs.758515 to Rs. 1070312.

The Honda Amaze marked the beginning of diesel cars from the premium car maker. Initially stubborn about launching petrol cars in India, Honda faced heat from the diesel competition and was forced to launch a diesel sedan. Interestingly, Honda decided to attack in bottom first principle by launching an entry level sedan. The Honda Amaze is available in petrol and diesel variants with an option of manual and automatic transmission. It is priced between

Honda Amaze Vs Hyundai Verna Exteriors

Honda cars have a design that attracts an enthusiast and thus they have never looked boring. The design is minimalistic styled and does not look dated. The Honda Amaze too looks a well proportioned sedan. It has cuts and creases in right quantities at the right places. The design is based on Honda’s Smart Micro Limousine concept which emphasizes on strong present with compact dimensions. Seem from certain angles the Amaze looks like a mini-Honda City. The length of it has been limited to 3990 mm making is a sub 4 metre sedan. Smaller dimensions mean no sweat in finding parking lots.

The Verna Fluidic is a very appealing car compared to its predecessor. Its radical styling looks sharp and curvy like a super model. The lines on the car are blended in to stretch from the front fender to the rear giving it a very aerodynamic look and feel. Even so, the door handles are well incorporated in the design.

Honda Amaze Vs Hyundai Verna Interiors

The Interiors of the Vernaare very impressive and feel fresh and rich. The special beige and wood trim looks very modern, and the dashboard doesn’t look cheap or plasticky, but rather well sculpted.

The Verna’s leather feels smooth, and the wooden garnish on the doors adds to the elegance of the cabin. The steering wheel is sporty like the Honda City, and is comfortable especially on long drives. The new Verna’s A pillar is perfectly placed and doesn’t hinder your vision; you can clearly see on-coming cars while turning on the ghats. The cabin is well lit at night, the map lamps are spot on and don’t seem disturbing while driving. The Verna’s cabin is not the quietest of all, and the engine can initially be heard within the cabin, but it quickly settles downs as the revs move higher. The cabin could have used a bit more of sound reduction mats.

The interiors of Honda Amaze car have been designed with the “man maximum machine minimum” concept which concentrates on allotting more space for occupants by minimizing the space required for mechanical components. This design philosophy also makes the interiors very spacious yet compact at the same time.

The instrumental panel is identical to the one in Brio which has a 3D combination meter with amber lighting. The digits look very sporty. On the instrumental panel, the central cave is the speedometer which also houses the digital fuel gauge in it. The digital display shows tripmeter, odometer and fuel consumption of the vehicle in addition to the fuel gauge. The left cave features the analog tachometer and it’s a superb sight to see the needle jump up and down during pedal to metal style of driving. The cave type arrangement of the instrumental panel sometimes makes it difficult to see other information apart from speed.

Honda Amaze Vs Hyundai Verna Performance

The Verna comes with 4 speed auto gears which are smooth but come with a turbo lag up to 2000rpm after which the VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) kicks in and the car accelerates instantly though a small jerk. The engine seems refined and the drive is smooth. The gearbox is tall and easy to use. The mid-range is packed with a punch and overtaking is not a problem but the 4 speed auto box does not do any justice to the sporty engine - a 5 speed would have been better and probably have taken care of the performance figures. It seems for now that the engines have been tuned to deliver good fuel efficiency without compromising much on power.

The Amaze petrol borrows the Brio’s heart. It has a 16 valve 4 cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine with a displacement of 1198cc. This engine produces a peak power of 88PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 109Nm at 4500 rpm. The petrol engine is offered in 5 speed manual as well as 5 speed Automatic transmission options. When it comes to a smooth refined and a performance engine, i-VTEC is one of my strong favorites.

The reason i-VTEC lists in my favorites is cause of the dual character. We have driven the Brio for more than 1000kms but even after driving the pint looking hatch for so long, the fatigue factor is negligible. In fact, during our Discover to Drive experience, the Brio was at its chirping best.

Honda Amaze Vs Hyundai Verna Conclusion

Honda has been a name synonymous with the premium and niche. Lately, with the Brio they have ventured in the entry car market in the country. This is their very first attempt but then in the first attempt itself Honda has catered to the sensitive side of the consumers. Superb mileage, great comfort and a premium brand image lures the Indian consumers easily. So clearly, the Amaze takes it from the DZire with its fresh approach and competitive pricing.

The Verna looks very stylish and dynamic. The ride quality as some claim seems to be compensated and is not as strong as the earlier generation. However, Hyundai claims that they will be tweaking the Verna suspensions to improve the drive quality of it.
