      Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker made its entry into the growing compact utility vehicle segment with the Ertiga MPV. The vehicle received excellent response from car buyers; however, the sales of the car started dropping once Honda Mobilio MPV entered the market.

      Force Motors, the homegrown automaker launched its first full-fledged SUV - the Force One - that offers spacious cabin and powerful engine. Despite a limited reach in the market, Force Motors managed to sell the car in decent numbers. If you are looking to buy one of these two vehicles, here's our brief comparison.

      Styling - Exterior and Interior

      Based on the Swift platform, the Ertiga MPV measures 4,265mm in length, 1,695mm in width and 1,685mm in height, and it comes with a wheelbase of 2,470mm. The vehicle shares its styling with other Maruti Suzuki cars such as front grille, sweptback headlamps and bonnet. It features a large bumper with wide airdams and new fog lamps that are fitted in vertical plastic shell. On the sides, the MPV gets electronically adjustable ORVMs with integrated blinkers, alloy wheels and body coloured door handles.

      The Force One SUV features a conventional SUV styling with chromed radiator grille, projector headlamps along with daytime running LED lights and round-shaped fog lamps with chrome inserts. The SUV features large wheel arches, alloy wheels, large windows, body colured door handles and ORVMs and roof rails. The car offers an impressive ground clearance of 205mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle off-road terrains.

      Talking about interiors, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga cabin looks identical to the Swift siblings. It features a dual-tone dashboard in beige and brown shade. The beige shade is made available on seats, carpets, steering wheel and gear knob. With second row seats folded, the MPV offers an excellent luggage space of 1351-litres. On the other hand, the Force One SUV is 7-seater vehicle with 3 forward facing rows. The homegrown maker claims that the vehicle offers best-in-class comfort and space. It is equipped with an on-board computer that shows distance to empty, gear selection, real time fuel efficiency, etc.

      The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is available in two engine options- 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel and 1.4-litre petrol motor. While the petrol engine is good for 94bhp, the oil burner produces 91bhp of power. Transmission option on offer is a a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the front wheels of the car. On the other hand, the Force One is powered by a 2.2-litre Daimler engine that churns out 140PS of power and 321Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all-4 wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

      Verdict

      Both Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Force One are seven-seater cars. While the Ertiga is a life style MPV, the One is a full-fledged SUV. Maruti's MPV is benefitted with MSI's strong dealership network and brand trust among Indian buyers, whereas Force Motors is yet to create some space in the highly competitive Indian market.
