      Cartrade Comparison Test

Datsun, known for making cars attracting the cost conscious, launched the Go+, an MPV based on the Go hatchback. It fits the body type but is not as grand as other main stream MPVs because of the lack of space for the third row passengers. Instead, they call it a smart family wagon. Datsun launched the Go+ at a starting price of Rs 3.79 lakh, ex-showroom. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga does not sit directly against the Go+ with its more premium price tag but then it gives an option to those looking for a compact MPV. It is available at a starting price of Rs 7 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai.

Exterior and Interior Design: Datsun Go+ Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Similar to the hatch, it gets a pronounced front face with large three dimensional headlamps. There are no fog lamps even on the top end variant. The front might look over the top but the rear is comparatively neat with extended shoulder lines give it a wider upper track. The rear glass area is small giving just about sufficient visibility to the driver while reversing the car. There is no variant badging on the tail door but just the model name, nice and simple.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga looks far more appealing than the Go+ with its crisp lines on the front profile. The headlights sweep back to the side profile. The wheel arches get a subtle flair creating a dynamic waist line, which in other cases are too bland. When seen along its length, the sedanish nose looks good.

Inside the Ertiga, the interiors are done in twin colors. The beige and black interiors try hard to look premium but end up looking tacky. The only place where the Ertiga scores more than the Duster is the availability of 3rd row. However in this 3rd row passenger comfort is negligible.

Go+’s base variants will get plain fabric upholstery while the premium variant gets Jacquard fabric upholstery which has a special pattern on it. The seats are bench type and Datsun claims that the front seats have been specially designed to keep the fatigue level low. The rear seats have a flat rear support and can do with some more cushioning. Both row seats come with integrated headrest. The third row seat, which is the main reason for the Go+ to qualify into an MPV is best suited for luggage bags primarily followed by younger beings as it is impossible for an average sized adult to fit in this zone.

Performance: Datsun Go+ Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

In terms of performance, The Go+ comes with the same three cylinder engine with a displacement of 1198cc which makes 68PS of power and 104Nm of torque and also comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga comes in petrol as well as diesel options. The petrol version makes use of K-Series Petrol Engine with VVT which has a displacement of 1373cc. It produces a max power of 95PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 130Nm at 4000 rpm. The diesel unit is a DDiS Diesel Engine which has a displacement of 1248cc. It produces a max power of 90PS at 4000rpm and a torque of 200Nm at 1750 rpm.

Conclusion: Datsun Go+ Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Datsun GO+ will only make sense if someone is looking for a bigger car at a modest budget. It does not necessarily fit in 7 passengers but has sufficient room for 5 adults and 2 children. Datsun is still on its way to be known as a reliable car maker. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been doing impressive numbers. It is an impressive product backed by the trust and legacy of Maruti Suzuki in India
