Toyota Kirloskar sales surge 151 percent in December 2011

Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant Toyota, has registered a massive surge of 151 percent in its sales during the month of December 2011. The company managed to sell a total of 15,948 units of its car models in the country during this month.

Speaking on the company’s performance during the month, deputy managing director (marketing) at Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Mr. Sandeep Singh said, "Despite challenging market conditions and unfortunate occurrence of Tsunami in Japan and floods in Thailand, the company has seen good sales."

In the calendar year 2011, the company sold a total of 136,150 units of its cars in the country, registering a massive increase of 82 percent year on year. The major contributor in the company’s sales during this year was volume segment Etios series of cars that accounted for total sales of 65,575 units during the year. While the sales of Etios sedan stood at 43,313 units during the year, the Liva hatchback accounted for 20,262 units.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the company said that while the segment leader Toyota Innova accounted for total sales of 51,930 units during year 2011, the sales of popular sports utility vehicle Fortuner stood at 10,946 units. The sales of Corolla Altis premium sedan stood at 9,283 units in the calendar year 2012.
