India's diversified business conglomerate Tata Group, in conjunction with French company Dassault Systemes, is working on an electric car that will be priced less than USD 20,000. Tata Technologies, which is the engineering services outsourcing and product development IT services branch of the Group, has already conducted the first electric MObility (eMO) study of the vehicle. The test was conducted using Dassault's 3DEXPERIENCE platform to demonstrate the feasibility of producing such a vehicle at an attractive price.

President, Tata Technologies, Vehicle Programs and Development Group, Kevin Fisher, stated, “The company is working on with Dassault Systemes to leverage the talents of a global engineering team to meet numerous design and cost constraints, as well as create the targeted user experience, including a final vehicle price tag of under USD 20,000." However, he did not divulge any information related to the launch of the vehicle and how much the company is investing in the project.

Tata Group maintained that it is not an easy task to fit all the systems into a small frame and yet provide space to accommodate at least four passengers. It required the joint efforts of more than 300 Tata Technologies engineers from different countries like India, US and European nations to develop the eMO.

According to a company statement, "To achieve this, Tata Technologies utilised the powerful capabilities within CATIA and ENOVIA applications to quickly develop various studies, allowing global collaboration to rapidly evaluate and converge on optimal solutions."

Executive Vice President, Dassault Systemes, Monica Menghini, stated that the partnership with Tata Technologies is crucial for the French company. It considers the project of its Indian partner as it aptly shows how its own 3DEXPERIENCE is crucial while working together with OEMs for higher turnaround time in the development process.
