Renault India Private Limited, the completely owned division of French auto maker, has expanded its presence in the country with the opening of a new warehouse in the country. The new unit of the auto maker sprawls around a vast area of 50,000 square feet and is located at the automotive hub of Talegaon MIDC, Pune. Reportedly, this warehouse is a key element of the network of International Parts Centre (IPC), which assists Renault to source the components for its models in great volumes from the local vendors. These components are then used for production of the Alliance Overseas Manufacturing plants all over the world.

Marc Nassif, the Managing Director at Renault India was quoted as saying in the ceremony, “The IPC in Pune is an integral part of Renault India’s efforts towards providing customers across the globe with competitive parts. With the IPC, we can leverage not just the presence of competitive suppliers in India, but also benefit from savings through volume consolidation – a strategy that enables localization and affordability, while also leveraging the high standards of quality offered by our supply partners in the country.”

Working since 2007, the Pune-based IPC happens to be a part of the global network of the 20 Alliance International Logistics Centres, which are established to ensure the price competitive supply chain management. Reportedly, this platform has been a successful mode for the export activities of Renault India. In 2012, the total exports processed by IPC stood more than 60,000 m³ of parts, which equated over Rs. 400 crores.

Speaking on this, Jean-Paul Charraut, in Charge of Renault India SCM Operation said, “As an indication of Renault’s growing presence in India as well as our strengthening relationships with suppliers in the country, the IPC has seen exponential growth in parts turnover since its establishment –– from just 10,000 m³ in 2008 to a projected 75,000 m³ in 2013. The new warehouse being inaugurated today will help us expand IPC’s capacity and cater to the increasing volume demand from our worldwide plant customers.”

Industry experts believe that the new warehouse of the Renault India is another benchmark for the auto maker’s expanding presence in the Indian auto market. Currently, the French auto maker has maintained more than 100 showrooms in India, which were all established in just 18 months. Renault Design India is another innovative centre of the car maker, which is presently engaged in designing the vehicles and accessories for the company, specifically according to the demands of Indian buyers. Being a part of the venture, the models of Renault are manufactured at Renault-Nissan production unit at Oragadam. Besides, the Technology and Business Centre India of Renault-Nissan facilitates the auto maker with support functions like Purchasing, Technology and Engineering.

The Indian arm of this French auto maker has also witnessed a tremendous success with almost nine-fold sales growth in year-on-year basis during February. Along with this, the company has received a large number of customer and industry expert awards, comprising the ‘Car of the Year’ award for Renault Duster and title of ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ for offering the Scala sedan and Pulse hatchback in the Indian market. It must be noted that the Renault India exports it’s locally made Duster to a number of right-hand drive markets like United Kingdom and Ireland.

On this, Marc Nassif was quoted as saying, “Renault’s focus on India as a key domestic market as well as an export hub has been the cornerstone of our commitment to the country. The inauguration of the new warehouse today along with the IPC’s success in providing affordable and quality parts for plants across the globe is yet another milestone in Renault’s journey in India, with the country already among Renault’s top 10 markets globally.”
