Optimised Curve Braking System enabled in bikes by Continental

Continental, the German automotive manufacturing company, has defined the safety for bikers on roads with ultramodern safety equipment. The most path breaking innovation of the company has been anti-lock braking system (ABS), which has been a blessing for riders. It has now moved a step further with the development of Motorcycle Integral Brake (MIB). A new function has been added to the armour by this company, which is known as the optimised curve braking, which is perfectly designed for improving the safety of bikes while taking a curve.

The most difficult task while riding a bike is often said as braking at the corners, because of the lack of stability. The anti-lock braking stability (ABS) for bikes have been manufactured and designed is such a way so that it works in a straight line only. This made applying brakes at corners a tough aspect. This is why it is suggested to apply brakes just before entering a corner. The new system allows riders the luxury of applying brakes at the corners. The most important aspect of this system is that ABS kicks in more gradually thus modulating the braking pressure smoothly, thus increasing stability. This system allows the application of brake pressure on the rear and front wheel at the right proportion. All these functions lead to an increased stability while riding.

Ronan Le Roy, the Head of Business in the Vehicle Dynamics Business Unit of Continental’s Chassis and Safety Division, was present at the occasion of this announcement. He said, “Thanks to optimised curve braking, braking in curves is more stable and therefore more predictable. The danger of having an accident in a curve is reduced and safety increased," The first motorcycle to have this system installed in it is the BMW S1000XR and was showcased at the 2014 EICMA show. The production expectancy of MIB system-enabled motorcycles is during the summer of 2015.
