Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian utility vehicle giant is planning to launch an improved version of its Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Scorpio, which it introduced in the year 2002. It was considered to be a big step for the company, which was earlier famous for its Jeeps and tractors.

The Scorpio depicted Mahindra's capability to build new and innovative vehicles. Even after 10 years, the Scorpio holds reputed position in the SUV segment of India. Regular updates by Mahindra on its flagship SUV have retained the Scorpio in the market.

The company is already progressing upon launching of the new version of Scorpio, which is codenamed as W105 Project. Mahindra is planning to provide chassis and body in the Scorpio similar to the latest XUV500.

With Bolero, the company has learnt that the tough body-on-the-frame type design works well for both urban and rural roads. So, the company is planning to introduce the new Scorpio with many alterations.

The current Scorpio however lacks legroom in the second row due to short length wheelbase, which the company is planning to rectify in new model by widening the wheelbase. Apart from reducing the weight, the company may provide 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine, which is borrowed from XUV500. However, the company has not provided any exact details in this regard.

Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) is where the research on W105 is in progress. MRV is the company's new research facility located in Chennai, which comprises advanced labs and facilities to assure speedy development of the project. As per reports, the new Scorpio model will be rolled out by 2014.
