Honda is planning to bring new variant of Civic by 2012. The car has been tested rigorously on the American tracks though the company is yet to announce the final production ready model and its ultimate launch date. However, the car is expected by late 2012 which will be its ninth generation. It will be available with both petrol as well as hybrid options plus there will be sedan as well as Coupe variant of the car in the international market.

The car will remain front-wheel drive for cost and packaging reasons, with a four-cylinder the most likely option. Customers will likely be able to choose from a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a manual transmission.

There are several changes in 2012 Civic model as compared to the current model in the market. The hybrid variant will have lithium ion batteries instead of nickel-metal hybrid that currently power the model.
