15 Mercedes-Benz G55s recently concluded their unforgettable journey in India as they bid adieu, following a 16,800 km trip, spending 38 days, through the continents of Europe and Asia via Germany, Russia and Nepal. The fascinating SUV was driven by a group of 18 to 80 year old automobile enthusiasts, who explored the unpredictable terrains and mind-bending landscapes to its fullest.

This one-of-its-kind caravan, part of the global ‘Mercedes-Benz Driving Events’ campaign, saw the 15 G-Wagons undergoing the extreme situations of off-roading. Setting new standards, the SUVs made their way to Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, across the Ural Mountains in Russia, Kazakhstan, the Gobi Desert in China and Tibet. The unprecedented journey then ascended towards the Mount Everest Base camp, before bringing the event to a memorable end.

Martin Breuninger, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Off-road, stated that “The G-Wagon is the pinnacle in automobile engineering when it comes to SUV’s. Riding across landscapes and hostile terrains, this drive has only reinforced the G-Wagon’s supremacy as a vehicle that offers the best capabilities in the highest terrains of the world.”

The G-Wagon, which stands for Geländewagen that literally means ‘cross country vehicle’ in German, has carved a niche for itself, surfacing as the best off-roader in the world. Its impressive appearance, which has been consistent throughout its 30-year career, paired with extraordinary engineering, has backed this Mercedes-Benz off-roader right from the start. The SUV segment has been subjugated by the G-Wagon, which even now holds an undeterred position in the market.

We are incredibly thrilled to have been a part of this magnificent journey which drew to a conclusion in India. The G-Wagon consistently amazed us with its unbridled performance at every stage of our odyssey,” said a participant of the drive.

Mercedes-Benz has been holding all the aces, with the G-Wagon being under its belt for almost 3 decades now. Thus, the luxury car maker would be quite nostalgic as it finally discontinues its association with the unconquerable SUV giant.
